Terms of use
Last updated 8 November 2026.
By using ukplatecheck.com or the installed mobile version (together, "the service") you agree to these terms.
What the service is
The service displays information about UK vehicles from official sources: the DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service, the DVSA MOT History API, DVSA safety recall data, Vehicle Certification Agency fuel data, Companies House, Postcodes.io and Open Charge Map. It also shows estimates worked out by us: road tax, London ULEZ compliance, running costs and clean air zone charges.
Estimates are not official results
Road tax, ULEZ, running cost and clean air zone figures are estimates derived from the DVLA record and published rates. They can be wrong, for example where the DVLA record is incomplete, where the list price matters, or where a council changes its rules. Always confirm with GOV.UK, Transport for London or the council before relying on them. Safety recalls are matched by make, model and build date; only a manufacturer or franchised dealer can confirm a recall using the VIN.
Acceptable use
- Use the service for lawful purposes, such as checking a vehicle you own or are considering buying.
- Do not use it to identify, locate or harass a person.
- Do not scrape, bulk-query or automate requests. The service is rate-limited and we may block abusive traffic.
- Do not attempt to access the administration area or interfere with the service.
Data sources and licences
Information from DVLA, DVSA, the VCA and Companies House is public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Charger data is from Open Charge Map under its licence. We are not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any of these organisations.
Availability and liability
The service is provided free of charge and "as is". We do not guarantee that it will be available, accurate or free of errors, and the upstream services may be unavailable at times. To the extent permitted by law, we exclude liability for any loss arising from use of, or reliance on, the service. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or anything else that cannot be limited by law. Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected.
Intellectual property
The UK Plate Check name, logo and the design and code of the service belong to us. Data from third parties remains theirs.
Changes
We may change these terms. The date at the top shows the current version. Continued use after a change means you accept the new terms.
Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. Consumers living elsewhere in the UK, or in Brazil, keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law of where they live.
